When we look up and see clouds we witness part of a profound, simple, yet intricate aspect of the climate… the movement of water around the earth.
When we humans want to move water, we need pipes and pumps, hoses, valves, tanks, electricity, faucets, and the like. We make complicated networks to get water to where we want it.
Not with God. He does it differently. He designed a system that allows for water to be distributed all over the earth – no pipes involved! He uses clouds. Clouds quietly move tons and tons of water across the sky. In this way water is distributed all over the earth falling as rain, snow, sleet, etc.
Combined with rivers, streams, lakes and seas water cyclically moves around the earth wherever God determines. This too is all in His control.
Clouds come in all shapes and sizes and they have been given many names.
To appreciate clouds, find a comfortable spot to lay on the ground and look up for awhile and ponder at how much water is moving overhead, ever so quietly, to be delivered at the exact place God determines. Not a bad time to thank Him for water and His means of bringing it to us.
“Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make the melody to our God on the lyre! He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.” Psalm 147:7,8
