We are such creatures of habit. We often do things the same way.
We get up the same way, we go through the same morning routines, drive the same route, stop at the same coffee shop, park in the same spot, sit in the same chair at meetings. We might even have the same work routine everyday.
Then we’ll drive home the same way, follow an evening routine, go to bed the same time, only to get up the next day to do it all over again.
We even pattern weekends in a certain way. Don’t get me wrong – habits are good and so is keeping them, and having routine is important.
But what if, in the routine, we did one thing different everyday? One thing. It would broaden our experience and widen our perspective.
If you always sit in the same spot in a meeting, take a different seat and gain new perspective.
If you always drive home the same way, take a different route; and discover something new.
If you always hang out with the same people, bust out and meet someone new.
If you always eat the same food, try something you haven’t had before.
If you’re always comfortable, challenge yourself.
Expand your horizons; do one thing different today.
