There’s a rather cheap saying that gets thrown around once in a while when we’re feeling burdened.
“God will never give you more than you can handle.”
It’s not true.
Often burdens in life feel way beyond what we can handle.
Right?
But take heart…. it’s not without purpose.
God gives us burdens not because we can always handle them, but to show us that even when we reach the end of ourselves (and we will), He is deeper still. And He wants us to experience His love in a deeper way.
His grace, His love, His power. Always deeper. Always greater.
There for us. Moment by moment.
The pain doesn’t always go away…. but there’s purpose in the pain.
God wants us to trust Him, and grow in trusting. He wants us to experience Him, and grow in experiencing Him.
And to quite literally rely on Him, and get used to relying on Him.
So often we default to ourselves and crash.
But He meets us at the end of ourselves and carries us way beyond.
So don’t go it alone. Lean into the unfathomable love and grace of God.
We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond their ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.
But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver, as you help us by your prayers.
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians. 2 Corinthians 1:8-11
